Prosecute Ize-Iyamu Over N700m PDP Campaign Fund,Edo APC Youths Tells EFCC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) youths in Edo State have called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to prosecute governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, over the N700million allegedly disbursed for the 2015 presidential campaign in the state.

This is just as the youths challenged the state chapter of the PDP in the state to come up with evidence linking the APC governorship candidate, Mr. Godwin Obaseki to the alleged N5.5billion shares misappropriation deal presently being investigated by the House of Representatives.

In a statement issued in Benin City yesterday, the APC youth leader, Comrade Osakpanwa Eriyo said that “the delay in prosecuting him is suspicious, and it is not in the interest of the anti-corruption war of the Federal Government. We are also going to compile Ize-Iyamu’s activities during the Igbinediona administration to the EFCC because all those who destroyed the economy of Edo state for ten years that PDP was in power must pay dearly for it”.

In defending the APC guber candidate against involvement in the shares misappropriation allegation, Eriyo said: “we also read an attempt to malign the name of our governorship candidate Godwin Obaseki; we are calling on the PDP to come up with evidence against him, and if it is true we will equally call on the EFCC to prosecute him. But we are aware that Obaseki has been in the public sector and has worked hard for all he owns today”.

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has expressed readiness to conclude rerun elections in four states not later than July 31, adding that the commission is also ready for the forthcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states.

It would be recalled that the re-run elections ordered by the court in Rivers, Kogi, Kano and Imo states were cancelled or suspended by the commission following alleged widespread electoral malfeasance and violence which marred the exercise.

Delivering a brief remark in Abuja on Wednesday shortly before his second quarterly meeting with states Resident Electoral Commissioners RECs was dissolved into a closed door session, Yakubu said, “There are a number of issues to be discussed, though this is a regular meeting: notably, the preparations for the forthcoming elections; the conclusion of rerun in Rivers, Kano, Imo and Kogi states.

“We have started the processes of consultation to determine the date for the conclusion of the rerun elections in the four states that I have mentioned not later than July 31.

“We have met with political parties and security agencies. Today, it is the turn of Resident Electoral Commissioners RECs and thereafter tomorrow we shall have the national stakeholders’ forum involving political parties, candidates involved in the elections, the security agencies, Resident Electoral Commissioners, the Civil Society Organizations and the Media to fix a date for the exercise.

“Secondly, we are also going to discuss preparations for the forthcoming end of tenure governorship elections in Edo on September 10 and Ondo on November 26,” he stated.

Yakubu added that INEC has concluded the Continuous Voter Registration CVR exercise in both states, noting that no fewer than 100, 000 people were registered in each of the state.

He stated that the figure is made of eligible Nigerians who have recently come of electoral age as well as those that transferred their data from other states.

The INEC Chairman, who stated that the commission is now into de-duplication to ensure that there are no multiple registrants, assured that “thereafter, we print the PVCs and distribute them before the elections.”

US election: Clinton Leads Trump by 11 points - Reuters/Ipsos

Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton posted an 11 percentage point lead over her Republican rival Donald Trump, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Tuesday, a small decline since late last week.

The June 24-28 poll showed that 45.3 percent of likely American voters support Clinton while 34.1 percent support Trump, and another 20.5 percent support neither.

Clinton’s lead was 14 points on Friday, though she has generally been widening her advantage over the New York real estate magnate since mid-May, when the two were nearly tied.

The former Secretary of State, senator and first lady was bolstered in recent days by endorsements from members of the Republican establishment, including Henry Paulson, Treasury secretary under former President George W. Bush.

Her Democratic rival Bernie Sanders, a U.S. senator from Vermont, said last week he would vote for her to stop Trump even though his campaign said this was not a formal endorsement.

Clinton is struggling to win over Sanders supporters after a hard-fought campaign for the nomination. Critics have assailed her over her handling of emails and a 2012 attack on a U.S. mission in Libya while secretary of state.

Trump got a brief boost in the days after the June 12 mass shooting in Florida, coming within nine points of Clinton as he fine-tuned a campaign promise to temporarily ban the entry of Muslim immigrants to shore up national security.

His level of support so far in June, however, lags behind what his predecessor, Republican White House hopeful Mitt Romney, received in the same period in 2012, reports Reuters.

He has sparred with Republican leaders over his off-the-cuff rhetoric and lagged behind Clinton’s campaign organisation in both size and fundraising, worrying some of his allies.

The poll included 1,099 likely voters and has a credibility interval, a measure of accuracy, of 3.4 percentage points.

There have been no claims of responsibility for the attack just yet even as President Recep Erdogan said in a statement,

“If states, as all humanity, fail to join forces and wage a joint fight against terrorist organisations, all the possibilities that we dread in our minds will come true one by one,” he said in a statement.

“It is clear that this attack is not aimed at achieving any result but only to create propaganda material against our country using simply the blood and pain of innocent people.”

Buhari was speaking on June 28, Tuesday, breaking his Ramadan fast with a delegation of Islamic clerics, Vanguard reports.

The president said that incumbent leaders have a duty to make the country livable for all residents of all walks of life comprising posterity.

He asked the people to tolerate and show understanding amongst themselves.

I’m very pleased we have actually met. Before the Ramadan, I met our Christians brothers from all over the country and we exchange ideas with them,”President Buhari said.

“I’m very pleased we realized that this is our problem; the country’s problem is our problem. Nobody will solve it for us. We pray very hard to God. We work very hard and let us continue that way.

EU Wants Speedy UK's Confirmation Of BREXIT Vote

European Union leaders on Friday said they expected the British government to speedily give effect to British people’s decision to exit the 28-member country group as soon as possible to avoid “prolonged uncertainty”.

The president of the European Council, Donald Tusk, and his counterparts in European Parliament, Martin Schulz; European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, and holder of the rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU, Mark Rutte, said in a joint statement in Brussels that although they regret the outcome of the UK referendum, they respect the decision.

Despite what they called a “painful process”, the EU leaders said they expected the UK government to give effect to the decision of the British people as soon as possible.

The British people on Thursday, in a vote of 52:48, won a landmark referendum to leave the EU.

“In a free and democratic process, the British people have expressed their wish to leave the European Union. We regret this decision, but respect it,” the EU leader said.

Describing the decision as “unprecedented”, the EU leaders said they were united in their response and would stand strong to uphold the EU’s core values of promoting peace and the well-being of its peoples.

“The Union of 27 member States will continue. The Union is the framework of our common political future. We are bound together by history, geography and common interests and will develop our cooperation on this basis.

“Together we will address our common challenge to generate growth, increase prosperity and ensure a safe and secure environment for our citizens. The institutions will play their full role in this endeavour,” they said.

The EU leaders said Article 50 of the Treaty on EU sets out the procedure for a members’ orderly exit, pointing out that they were ready to launch negotiations swiftly with the UK government on the terms and conditions of its withdrawal.

They said until the process of negotiations was over, the UK would remain a member of the group, with all the rights and obligations derived from it, with EU Treaties and laws, which the UK ratified, continuing to apply in full.

EU law still stands in the UK until it ceases being a member. It is not clear how long it would take for process of negotiation and agreement would take.

With the outcome of the referendum, the UK has to first notify the president of the European Council of its intention to leave either through negotiation between the UK and the EU or an agreement on the terms of its withdrawal from the group.

Until a formal agreement is reached at the end of the negotiations, the EU leaders said the “New Settlement for the United Kingdom within the European Union”, reached at the European Council on February 18-19, 2016, would not take effect and ceases to exist.

But at the parallel market, the naira depreciated by N10 or 3.2 percent as the parallel exchange rate rose sharply to N351 per dollar from N340 per dollar on Monday.A bureau de change operator, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the sharp depreciation was due to resurgence of demand for dollars, while supply has declined.Last week, the naira appreciated significantly in the parallel market due to panic selling of dollars which boosted supply.

The BDC source, however, said the appreciation was due to panic reaction to the commencement of the revived interbank foreign exchange market under the new flexible foreign exchange policy introduced by the CBN twoweeks ago.

JARAHGIST Featuring Late Benson Andrew Idahosa :Father Of Nigerian Pentecostalism

Benson Andrew Idahosa (1938-1998): Father of Nigerian Pentecostalism
Its 18years since Idahosa’s death on the 12 of March 1998. Benson Idahosa has been described by many as the Father of Nigerian Pentecostalism. Idahosa is also truly one of the pioneers of Neo Pentecostalism in Africa.

Who then is Idahosa?
Benson Andrew Idahosa was born in Benin (now Edo state) as an unhealthy child into a poor family. His health was so bad that his father instructed the Mother to throw him away. The mother did throw him away, but after a while she took him back. This caused a temporary separation between his parents. Later Idahosa struggled to be educated up to secondary school this was due to lack of finance. He was so poor that he could not afford a pair of shoes until he was eighteen years old.

In 1952, through a dramatic incident Idahosa became a Christian in an Assemblies of God Church in Benin. After his conversion he read the whole of John’s Gospel and decided he had to witness to his friends. This was the beginning of Idahosa’s preaching the Gospel. Idahosa later sought after the experience of Baptism in the Spirit and he asked the Pastor at the Assembly of God to pray for him. He was filled with the Spirit and spoke in tongues. After this experience Idahosa began to preach in the different villages organizing open air meetings. He did this in the evening while he worked for a shoe company during the day. He was also an active and committed member of the Assembly of God Church where he was converted.

The open air meetings witnessed people being healed of epilepsy and many other sicknesses. Other miracles were also happening in these meetings. The news about the open air meetings started to spread to other villages and this led to more evangelistic activities. In order to reach more people with the Gospel he bought a motorcycle to help him travel to distant villages to conduct Gospel meetings.
In June 1967 Idahosa lost his father during the Civil War riots. A year later, during one night, his room was filled with God’s presence and he was awoken from sleep by a voice. It was the Lord speaking to him about his future mission;

“I have called you that you might take the gospel around the world in my name, preach the gospel, and I will confirm my word with signs following".

After this experience he began to do more evangelistic meetings and outreaches. He would ask the Chiefs who head the villages for permission to conduct an evangelistic meeting in their village. They responded and more people were saved through his ministry. He directed the converts to existing Pentecostal Churches such as the Assemblies of God. Due to his evangelistic activities Idahosa soon became a leader under Pastor Okpo (the pastor at the Assemblies of God Church where he became a Christian) who gave him directions in ministry.

However this did not last long as Idahosa decided to follow his own vision and establish a Church. To this end Idahosa started a Bible study group in front of a store and within few years they outgrew the place bought a piece of land to build a bigger Church facility. In order to build this Church members of Idahosa’s Church contributed a lot of money, time and labour.
Later Idahosa met one of the Apostolic Church missionaries, S.G. Elton and they became good friends.

Elton became Idahosa’s mentor and it was him that introduced Idahosa to Gordon and Freda Lindsey (one of the healing evangelist of the Latter Rain Movement). Both Elton and Lindsey ordained Idahosa into ministry in 1971.
Idahosa was granted scholarship to study at Gordon Lindsey’s Bible College, Christ for the Nations Institute in Texas United States. Gordon Lindsey also helped Idahosa financially to build his Church. While Idahosa was studying for a Diploma in Divinity, he read T.L.Osbourne’s book on evangelism and he became very concerned about evangelizing Benin his home town.

He later asked permission from Gordon Lindsey to go back to Nigeria. Permission was granted and he went back in 1972 not completing his Diploma in Divinity.
Idahosa, the elders of his Church and Elton began to organize Gospel meetings in stadiums. The first was the one at Ogbe stadium in Benin which attracted 10,000 people. They publicise the meeting on radio stations, print posters and leaflets. This was a pioneering effort by Idahosa as it was American evangelists who usually do this sort of thing.

This type of gospel meetings (usually known as Gospel Crusades in Nigeria) became a defining feature of Idahosa’s ministry and would later attract hundreds of thousands of people. As Idahosa and his team did these Gospel Campaigns all over the country, converts were won and this eventually led to many Church plants. This Church planting concept was pioneering then as it was new to Nigerian Charismatics who were not sure whether to start founding Churches.
Through his personal experience of poverty, the effects of the Civil War riots on Nigeria, the global recession that deflated Nigerian economy and the influence of American evangelists, Idahosa started to articulate Prosperity Gospel making him a pioneer in Nigeria and other African countries. In 1973 Idahosa claimed he received this message from God.

The world and its people are complaining daily of poverty and want. I have given you the mouth of miracles and blessings to my people. I have asked the cashiers of heaven to be on duty as long as you have a need for my own honour and glory. I shall supply all your needs according to my riches in glory (Philippians 4:19).

Begin to bless your people with all blessing; ask them to ask me anything they need, and I shall provide it for them. If only they will honour me with their wealth, I shall make them to be prosperous in all areas of their lives. I shall bless your partners and co-workers.
Wake up, go to the Church in the morning, and tell them poverty died last night. What you bless on earth is blessed in heaven. Bless my people, says the Lord, who came to give the good life of abundance.

Since then Idahosa has been preaching Prosperity with his life style and story. He dressed flamboyantly, used the best cars and pursued big projects with big budgets. It would however be wrong to conclude that he only used the money for his benefits, because he helped people financially, gave scholarships to the poor, fed people, gave cars and spoke on behalf of the voiceless to the Nigerian government on several occcasions.

One of his sayings was, “it is better to live for posterity than for prosperity” This was why he built primary school, secondary school, a University and a hospital. In 1981, he was ordained as the first Pentecostal Bishop in Nigeria by David Du plesis (known as Mr. Pentecost) and two other Bishops. Idahosa also pioneered a television ministry, ‘Redemption Hour’ which made him to become the first TV evangelist in Africa. His Bible College has trained the likes of Bishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams of Christ Action Faith Ministries, Bishop Charles Agyin-Asare of Word Miracle Church International, Bishop James Saah, Bishop Christianah Doe Tetteh of Solid Rock Chapel International and many others.

Many of today’s Nigerian Pentecostal ministers can trace their roots directly or indirectly back to Idahosa. Men such as Bishop David Oyedepo of Winners Chapel, Bishop Francis Wale Oke of Sword of the Spirit Ministries, Bishop Mike Okonkwo (former president of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria), Ayo Oritsejafor, current president of PFN and many more. Before his death in 1998, Idahosa had visited and preached in 125 countries including Britain, Sweden, Switzerland, Mexico, USA, Ghana, Cameroun, South African, Australia and Kenya. He will be remembered as an African apostle to the nations.

2016 Olympics: Siasia continues to wait on Iwobi,Iheanacho,Ighalo

Head coach of Nigeria’s U-23 team, Samson Siasia, is still not certain he will have Alex Iwobi of Arsenal and Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho in his squad for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil.

Siasia told media in Abuja, that Arsenal are not willing to release Iwobi for the tournament, because they want the player to take part in their pre-season programme.
However, he is hoping that Iwobi’s father can convince Gunners boss, Arsene Wenger.

“The chances of Iwobi going to the Olympics depends how well his father is able to make Arsene Wenger to have a change of mind. Alex is a young man who will benefit much from playing against big stars like Neymer. He would be a great asset for us at the games,” he said.
“Manchester City are not forthcoming regarding the release of Kelechi Iheanacho for the Rio Olympic Games.

They are yet to respond to letter asking for his release and Kelechi is not helping matters with his attitude. I need him and Iwobi, but if they are not released to us, we manage what we have.”
Siasia, who led Nigeria to a silver medal at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, is also waiting on Watford’s Odion Ighalo, who is supposed to be one of the three over-aged players in the team.

Czech Republic Vs Turkey: Euro 2016 (0 - 2)- live

Group D concludes on Tuesday night with Turkey and Czech Republic facing off at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis. The two sides traded away wins during qualifying for the tournament.Czech Republic come into the game on the back of one of the matches of the tournament against Croatia. Starring down the barrel, the Czech side fought from 2-0 down to draw the match 2-2 in stoppage time.

Despite being completely dominated, substitute Milan Skoda’s headed effort got his side back into the match. The comeback was sealed in the 94th minute whenTomas Necid scored a penalty. The match was interrupted for a few minutes in the second half by Croatian fans throwing flairs onto the pitch.

Depending on the result of Croatia’s match againstSpain, which kicks off at the same tie, a win for Czech Republic could see them finish the group in second place. And while a draw would be enough for Pavel Vrba’s side to finish third, it would almostcertainly not be enough to see them qualify for the next round.Michal Kadlec, Tomas Necid, Tomas Sivok and David Pavelka all play their club football in Turkey and will be familiar with their opposition.

Czech Republic will be without their captain Tomas Rosicky, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament with a thigh injury.Should Czech Republic finish second, they’ll face confirmed Group E winners Italy at the Stade de France on June 27.

Turkey are still looking for their first points of the tournament, having lost their opening two matcheswithout scoring a single goal. Although a place in the top two is out of reach for Fatih Terim’s side, a win would see them finish third on 3 points. That may or may not be enough to qualify for the Roundof 16, as only 4 of the 6 third-place sides will progress.

Last time out, Turkey were on the wrong side of one of the performances of the tournament, suffering a 3-0 defeat to Spain. Burak Yilmaz showed his physicality up front and could be pain in the side of the Czech defence if selected.

Neutrals will be hoping to see more of 18-year-old forward Emre Mor after his cameo appearance in Turkey’s first match.Possible XICzech Republic:

Cech, Kaderabek, Sivok, Hubnik, Limbersky, Plasil, Darida, Skalak, Dockal, Krejci, LafataTurkey: Babacan, Gonul, Topal, Balta, Erkin, Tufan, Inan, Ozyakup, Calhanoglu, Yilmaz, Turan.

28-Year-Old Student Pastor Jailed For Stealing Tomatoes And Indomie In Osogbo

A 28-year-old student-pastor, Akintunde Olatunde, was today sentenced to three years imprisonment for burglary by an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court in Osun. The magistrate, Mr Olusola Aluko, in his judgment, said the convict should be kept behind bars due to the magnitude of his offence.

The prosecutor, Insp. Fagboyinbo Abiodun, had earlier told the court that the convict committed the offence on June 10 at about 5:00 p.m., in Omobolanle area of Osogbo.Abiodun said the convict conspired with others now at large to break into the apartments and shops in the neighborhood where they carted away some household and perishable items.

The stolen soup ingredients like pepper, tomatoes, palm oil valued N2,900 and Indomie cartoon. The suspect also broke into the house of one Afolabi Temitayo and carted away his television, antenna said to value at N1,500 and a bedroom fridge. He said the accused was a student-pastor at a prayer ministry in Osogbo.

Abiodun said that the offence contravened Sections 516, 413, 390, 411 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. 11, Laws of Osun, 2003.The convict who had no legal representation pleaded guilty to the 12-count charge preferred against him when his case was called

Those Who Stole For 16 Years Will Suffer Prosecution For 16 Years- Oshiomhole

Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole has reacted to criticism labeling President Muhammadu Buhari as performing poorly, adding that the president is already delivering on his electoral promises and the APC Change agenda.Oshiomhole, who was speaking at the national executive committee meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, said,

“I know that right now, everybody is talking in the country.“Is this the change we asked for? And my answer is Yes. It is the change we asked for.

“For all of us in this hall, you know that the challengeof fixing a house that has been destroyed is much more cumbersome than even building a completely new house because for the one that has been destroyed, you have to start by removing the debris.

“You have to check whether the foundations are weak so that you remove them. You must first do a lot of cleansing and excavation.“That is what President Muhammadu Buhari is doing. And people expect that in 12 months you would have fixed what was destroyed in 16 years.

“It is simply not possible and in any case, you must also recognize that even the pressure on the naira is the result of the so much dollars that was taken out and it will require a lot of efforts at a time of collapsed prices and the challenge of oil export to fixwhat was completely mismanaged.

“So, I ask us as elite, we have a duty to explain to the Nigerian people: Changes will come, but they won’t come by trying to remove a house with smoke under.“You must extinguish the fire and make sure the foundations are strong, and start the process of rebuilding gradually.

“Is this the Change we asked for? Yes. It’s the Change we asked for. There is no way miracles can occur in the life of a nation.“The challenge of re-fixing the house that has been destroyed is much more cumbersome.

”The governor, however, called on the NBA to join hands with the government in the fight against corruption. He added,

“The NBA has a very important role to playin the national effort to combat and defeat corruption. But I asked my Lord the Chief Judge, by the time the President of the NBA said the Bar has been fighting the war, and I said to my lord, are you aware of any casualty in the war the NBA has been fighting against corruption? Is it possible to fight a war without casualties?

“I think now we are beginning to see casualties because there is a renewed determination by the federal government under the able leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari to demonstrate that ifit is true that corruption is as rampant as everybody claims, and if it is true that we have set up institutions to fight it, it cannot also be true that we are fighting and nobody is falling.

“I think right now people are beginning to fall, and with your help, they can fall faster. Corruption is fighting back and I regret to have to say this in your presence, I should say this after you have left, that it appears that corruption is fighting back, and a section of the Bar is supporting this effort, because we have seen needless adjournments, needless amendments to charges and needless preliminary objections, leading to endless adjournments.

“I think that the Bar in your business section agrees on a code that if as Buhari said, if we don’t kill corruption, it will kill us, and we don’t want to die, then we must allow justice to have its way without delaying it.

”Oshiomhole said criticisms of the anti-graft war being one-sided should be ignored, adding that its allhandiwork of detractors. He noted,

“The truth is if you monopolize power for sixteen years, and you monopolize the sharing of thenational treasury for sixteen years, should you not monopolize the burden of being prosecuted for sixteen years?

”Is it the victims of the sharing that should be prosecuted? You dominated power for sixteen years, you have operated in the name of Boko Haram and you spent the money and shared the money.”Who else should be prosecuted? So, I think the Bar needs to be bold in dismissing those who are seeking to trivialize the anti-corruption war. Just now, we are beginning to see all kinds of groups coming up under the guise of one protest or the other. They want to harass and intimidate the system.”
